Clean Air CountsSM is a regional initiative to reduce ozone-causing emissions, thereby improving air quality and enabling economic development. It is a collaborative effort between the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and US EPA Region 5 and a project of the Delta Institute. The three-year initiative seeks to achieve specific and significant reductions in targeted smog-forming pollutants and major reductions in energy consumption. Begun in 2000, Clean Air CountsSM is organized in five campaigns aimed at different constituencies:
For more information on ways to participate and generate quantifiable emission reductions, click on one of the campaigns listed on the left. To learn more about the various strategies for reducing emissions such as Natural Landscaping, Low-VOC Paints and Workplace Transportation Options, use the pulldown menu above. Participants will be recognized at the state and local levels for their efforts to improve air quality in the Chicago region. Clean Air CountsSM has the potential to serve as a national model for cooperative, voluntary, incentive-based environmental clean up that simultaneously enhances community redevelopment. We hope you will join us. Clean Air CountsSM is the implementation phase of the Regional Dialogue on Clean Air and Redevelopment. For more background on this effort, see the History Page. |
