Overview

Overview Clean Air Counts is an innovative, non-regulatory approach to reducing smog-causing emissions in the Chicago metropolitan region to achieve compliance with standards of the federal Clean Air Act.

Outreach is to audiences not traditionally targeted by regulations, and is targeted at specific constituencies:

  • Businesses, Industries, and Institutions
  • Municipal Governments
  • Developers, Architectural Services, and Property Managers
  • Households
  • Other Governing and Taxing Bodies

Joining Clean Air Counts means individuals and/or organizations are making a commitment to undertake voluntary efforts to reduce smog in the Chicago region. CAC adopters assess opportunities to reduce emissions and conserve energy in areas related to transportation, energy, operations and maintenance, and development. Adopters also agree to simple, annual reporting about their reduction strategies so that the Campaign can quantify members’ efforts.

Funded by a network of local foundations and federal appropriations, Clean Air Counts is managed by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus.
